A Chance Beginning

Chris first came across brewing when helping his grandparents at the recycling centre - someone dropped off some large glass vessels that didn’t fit in the bins and, thinking they might be valuable, he cheekily picked them up! Once Chris learned what these “demijohns” were for, he played around with a few ginger beer recipes - but it wasn’t until university that he began to focus on mead - it was more flexible, sweeter and delicious. Living in London as a student, creating alcohol was popular to say the least…

A source of great frustration over the years was the difficulty finding mead, let alone having a choice of different products. Even as he followed the traditional path of office work with a salary and a pension, Chris never stopped brewing his own. Friends and neighbours all suggested going into business, but he always resisted due to the complexity and his lack of business experience.
